Another game of musical chairs may be in the offing after the en masse migration of on-air TV talents that affected NTV, Citizen, K24, KBC, KTN, BBC Nairobi Bureau and Ebru TV came to a halt.
This time round, however, the battle will be squared out on the mainstream Kikuyu radio stations.
Rival radio stations, Inooro and Kameme FM, owned by Royal Media Services (RMS) and Mediamax Network Limited respectively, are said to be preparing to strengthen their positions which may see a fierce battle for talents.
According to well-placed sources in both media houses, Gatonye Wa Mbugua and comedian Mzee Kiengei could be eyeing Inooro FM's breakfast show 'Hagaria', due to what has been termed as 'impending major changes' at the station. At Kameme, Gatonye also doubles up as the Head of Radio.
On the other hand, Kameme FM is said to be targeting among others, Inooro FM breakfast co-presenter Jeff Kuria.
The source at Mediamax reveals that Joyce Geturo who recently decamped from Radio Citizen where she served as the Head of Radio to Mediamax where she will be the Programmes Controller (radio division), is unhappy with many heads of radio under the Mediamax stable.
Geturo is said to be warming up to effect major changes across all the stations which may include bringing on board her former colleagues at RMS.
"I know they have approached one Inooro breakfast presenter and a raft of other presenters at Inooro with an offer but I do not know whether they have reached a deal or not," says the Mediamax source.
The impending changes at Mediamax are, nevertheless, said to have already started to unruffle feathers among some presenters, the reason why Gatonye and Kiengei could be contemplating to dump the UhuRuto-owned media house.
"Geturo is keen on introducing a new line-up of presenters aimed at turning around the radio stations which directly competes with those owned by RMS where she had worked for long. That is why she could be out on a poaching spree at RMS," the source said.
The RMS source intimated that Inooro FM is concerned about its 'dwindling fortunes' and plummeting advertising revenue.
"There could be a major shake-up soon but I do not know who will be affected. What I know is that there may be some presenters who have been approached by Mediamax," the RMS source revealed on Wednesday.
For now, how this battle of the airwaves shapes up, is a matter of wait and see.
