Bomet County Governor Dr Joyce Laboso is dead. Dr Laboso died at a Nairobi hospital after battling an undisclosed disease for some time.
After arriving in the country from Britain and India where she had gone to seek medication in July, Laboso deputy Dr Hillary Barchok said that her illness was purely a reserve of close family members.
He asked for prayers and support.
"The state of her health is strictly a family affair, we cannot purport to speak for them. She should be given the support she needs and we should not intrude into their privacy," Barchok said while at his office in July as quoted by Daily Nation.
Earlier on Monday, the Bomet County Communications team maintained the privacy of the condition despite family members saying that she has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the last two weeks where very few people have been allowed to visit her.
“The governor is recuperating and is under observation by her doctors who have recommended [for] her enough rest and limited visitation for a speedy recovery,” County Communications Director Ezra Kirui said in the statement quoted by Daily Nation.
Dr Laboso became one of the three maiden female governors in the country after dethroning Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto in 2017 elections.
The other female governors are Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga).
