Luo Nyanza political zone remains a bedrock of the opposition under the leadership of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The region is known to vote for people only known to be loyal to Raila and his camp during elections, and reject party hoppers.

But here are some politicians who managed to breach this in the concluded polls by making miraculous stunts and overturning the culture.

1. Onyango Oloo

The latter was fresh from the ruling side which was considered an evil side by the majority opposition supporters in Kisumu and the larger Nyanza region.

This would see him lose to Fred Ouda in the race for the Kisumu Central parliamentary seat.

But how he managed to convince the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) so fast to back him for the Kisumu County Assembly Speaker slot and proceed to win it remains a mystery.

This is a demonstration of a political miracle, considering that Oloo was even the Secretary-General of president Uhuru Kenyatta's The National Alliance (TNA) party.

He even helped Uhuru beat the region's political kingpin and opposition leader Raila Odinga in the 2013 presidential elections.

2. Okoth Obado

The Migori Governor also pilled a miraculous stunt before securing his reelection in the 2017 polls.

It's worth noting that he had just decamped from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to ODM in the run-up to the elections.

However, he would proceed to beat ODM loyalist in the elections despite being fresh from a rival party, in a region dominated by ODM supporters.

Though known not to have been very vocal politically before his election in 2013, he proceeded to beat longtime politicians like Ochilo Ayacko who was also a close ally Odinga.

He beat Ayacko in the party primaries before again bearing him in the general polls, this time the former Energy Cabinet Minister vying on an independent ticket.

It's not yet clear how he did it.
