A mysterious fire on Monday razed down Barclays Bank branch in Murang'a

Firefighters swung into action to put out the fire. According to witnesses, there was foul smell from the financial institution after the fire broke out.

A witness, Joyce Macharia, said that they saw huge smoke from the bank only to realise it was a fire.

Macharia, who works at a law firm located a few meters from the bank, said that the firefighters tried to salvage the situation. 

The incident occurred at 1 p.m. 

"I was in the office when we noticed a foul smell and after it persisted, I switched off the electricity and came out of the office. I later learnt that the smoke was coming from the bank," she said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Police have embarked on an investigation into the accident. The incident comes after detectives launched a manhunt for criminals who have reportedly robbed several Barclays bank ATMs.

The Mater Hospital in South B, Kenyatta National Hospital, Mutindwa and Buruburu area among the banks affected by the robbery.

Barclays has been hitting headlines since alleged fake billions and gold were found at the institution.
