Subow wants KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion to dialogue with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to avert the strike.

The Garissa Women Rep says that the planned teachers strike will affect the education calendar for students in public schools.

Subow who spoke to journalists in Garissa Town on Monday said that the demands by teachers can be tackled through dialogue.

"We are pleading with KNUT and TSC to soften up and dialogue for the sake of innocent students," she said.

Subow said it will be disastrous if the planned teachers strike goes on.

She urged the Labour Ministry to urgently spearhead talks between KNUT and TSC to avert the looming strike.

Subow said that students are prepared to resume learning and that they are likely to be affected if the planned strike is not stopped.

KNUT has insisted that the planned teachers strike set to start on January 3, 2019, is still on.

The teachers union says that it will only call off the strike if the Teachers Service Commission addresses its concerns.

KNUT is against the mass transfer of teachers.

The teachers' union wants TSC to revoke the mass transfer of teachers and immediately effect their promotion.

The Wilson Sossion led teachers' union is accusing TSC of allegedly using mass transfer to punish teachers.

Two weeks ago, Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yattani formed a conciliatory committee to dialogue with the teachers union.

The committee met with KNUT last Saturday but the meeting was not fruitful.

On Monday, the Employment and Labour Court sitting in Nairobi issued an order stopping the teachers strike until when a case filed by TSC is heard and determined.

The case is set for Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

KNUT has,  however, vowed to go on with the planned strike.

The planned teachers strike is likely to paralyze learning in public schools.
