Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has pledged to work with the Gusii community in his quest to bringing change in the country.
Mutua made the remarks shortly after he met with a section of Gusii leaders in Nyamira County during a function to raise funds for the construction of Tindereti Primary School Hall on Monday.
The Gusii leaders lead by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama said they will back Mutua's 2022 bid and urged him to consider picking Matiang'i as his running mate.
In a post on his Facebook page, Mutua said that he will walk with the people of Nyamira and the greater Gusii region to bring change in the country once and for all.
"Lastly, I wish, from the bottom of my heart to thank my brothers and sisters from the great Abagusii nation for inviting me and for the warm reception here at Tindereti, Nyamira county today. I’m particularly grateful to my brother Sen Okongo Omogeni who initiated this visit. Thank you Governor Nyagarama for your wonderful hospitality. I am forever grateful to the advice and words of wisdom of Hon Senator Sam Ongeri. Thanks also to Hon Dr Fred Matiang’i for being effective and Chap Chap in serving Kenya and for your message. Thank you leaders and people of Nyamira and the great Gusii Nation. I promise to walk with you in the journey to change this country once and for all," Mutua said.
Mutua also rubbished the mentality that Kenya will only be led by one or two ethnic groups and championed for ethnic diversity to allow other communities to have a chance to lead Kenya.
The county boss asked Kenyans to support his 2022 presidential bid, noting that he is a candidate with no baggage or political debts to pay to cartels, political patrons or tribal barons.
