A top Ford Kenya leader has indicated his support for Deputy President William Ruto to become President in 2022.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Saturday said he was in agreement with a new poll that says the DP has everything it takes to clinch victory at presidential level in four years to come. Khalwale contested for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in 2017 on a Ford Kenya party ticket.
The poll conducted by Radio Africa Group in Nairobi County says a majority, 54 percent of the city's residents believe Ruto will win the presidency in 2022. Nairobi is considered the epicentre of Kenya's politics and the poll result may be interpreted as a representation of the whole country.
"Am pleased to associate myself with the 54 percent in this poll who are in agreement that William Ruto is fit to be the 5th president of Kenya," the outspoken former Ikolomani MP said in a tweet. https://twitter.com/KBonimtetezi/status/1084013965183721472
The poll outcome may be sweet music in the ears of the deputy president and his allies who have been rebelling within Jubilee over claims that there are plans to lock the DP out of the presidential race in 2022.
Khalwale of recent has become a key campaigner of Ruto especially in Western Kenya having hosted the former Eldoret North MP in Kakamega for bullfighting competitions before the end of 2018.
Although he has openly been campaigning for Ruto, Khalwale's party leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula also has interest in the presidency in 2022 and has indicated on diverse occasions his name would be on the presidential ballot paper during the next general poll.
