Political analyst Ambrose Weda has said that ODM leader Raila Odinga's input will heavily affect presidential alliances that might come up ahead of the 2022 general elections.
He says that this will also decide the fate of the said looming union of Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, which Kalonzo has, however, disowned.
According to Weda, the two, an alliance that can also bring on board ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, can only unite with Raila in the race, as otherwise, each will go it alone.
He says that all the leaders, having supported Raila at some point, will decide to go it alone, hoping to get the Luo Nyanza vote as a token for their support for Raila, in addition to their votes.
"If Raila doesn't run you will not see them together because they all think that Raila's people owe them a debt," he said on KBC English Service on Wednesday.
He suggested that should the former Prime Minister run, then they could come together to both overpower and revenge against him over the political harm be has caused them.
"The alliance is possible, especially because they have all suffered under Raila at some point," added Weda, a High Court advocate.
However, he noted that the big question will lie on who goes for the top seat, given that all the three have declared their interest in succeeding the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He stated that the crown might go to the DP, who appears more muscular financially and able to provide the needed campaign funds.
