Speaking when he led other politicians in celebrating Tom Mboya's 50th anniversary at the Holy Family Basilica on Friday, Raila took issue with Ruto's 'hustler' narrative.

The DP has been referring to himself as a hustler, basing his argument on the fact that he rose from a chicken seller and worked his way up.

Raila said that some of the people who deserved the tag are not using it wondering why the DP seems so obsessed with the title.

He gave an example of Mboya who worked his way up from the sisal farms to participate in the push for independence and later became the Minister of Labour and Economic Planning.

Raila added that Mboya too underwent a lot of problems but did not make a fuss about it, saying that he at one point lived in a two-roomed house in Nairobi but kept silent about it.

"Mboya lived in a two-roomed house in Ziwani and took a bank loan to build his first house but never referred to himself as a hustler," Raila stated.

Mboya was shot by one Nahashon Njenga while leaving Channi's chemist along Government Road, now Moi Avenue, on July 5, 1969.

He was only 39 then, but had made a name for himself as a fearless and visionary leader.
