A 46-year-old woman has confessed that she stopped consuming alcohol after the death of her husband 7 years ago.
Josephine Moraa a resident at Matiero in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County said she is not ashamed confessing.
According to her, her husband who she could not mention by name introduced her to alcohol consumption.
"I was married in 2001 and during this time I didn't know what alcohol was. My husband was a seasonal drunkard. He could come home with bottles of beer and at times chang'aa," she noted.
Moraa narrated that one day after she gave birth to her first son in 2003, her husband asked her to taste chang'aa.
"I was asked to taste chang''aa by my husband who assured me that he can't beat me for drinking. I had to taste since he was present also drinking," she said.
She argued that she later developed a drinking habit which also saw her losing friends
"I was lonely most of the time because all my friends were Christians while I was a drunkard in the village," she stated.
She further argued; "In 2006 they have blessed with twins a boy and a girl. This is when my husband developed kidney failure due to excessive alcohol. He struggled with the diseases until he died in the year 2012 leaving me with the kids".
Moraa said she could not continue consuming alcohol because she was the only breadwinner in the family.
"During the burial of my husband locals and relatives urged me to stop drinking. I had to listen because I was now alone to take care of the children," she revealed.
She said since she left drinking, she has been living a good life and all her kids are faring on well with education.
"I thank God I reformed otherwise my kids could be suffering by now," she concluded.
