Appearing before Bondo Principal Magistrate Moses Obiero, the retired Bishop denied defilement charges and was released on a bond of Sh200, 000 or a cash bail of Sh100, 000.

The case will be mentioned on July16, with the hearing set for 30th and 31st of this month.

The court heard that on the night of the 27th and 28th of June 2018 at Majiwa village, Bar-Chando sub-location in Bondo sub-county, Siaya County, the Bishop forcefully and intentionally defiled the minor.

The girl was reportedly put under the Bishop’s care and protection for the sake of a property probe.

The standard eight pupil is said to have reported the incident at a local children’s home, after which a medical check-up was conducted, and confirmed that she had been defiled.

Angela was arrested on Friday evening. His wife and children were among residents who attended the court session.

The Bishop is represented by Lawyer Stephen Kopot.

Bishop Angela retired last year after serving at the Bondo Diocese for 17 years.
