The recurrent talk by opposition chief Raila Odinga that there is a looming Constitutional amendment may actually be targeting Deputy President William Ruto.

Raila, from the time he met President Uhuru Kenyatta at Harambee House in Nairobi, has more than three times said the Constitution may be amended before Kenyans go to the polls in 2022.If the amendment goes through amid claims that the review is meant to create more senior positions in government, then Ruto may actually be a probable beneficiary of one of the positions that will be formed.Ruto is facing an anthill task to garner all votes in Central Kenya and in case the vote-rich region does not overwhelmingly vote for the DP just like it did for Uhuru in 2013 and 2017 to deny the former Eldoret North MP the presidency, Uhuru may intervene and calm down the DP with one of the positions which, by then, would be in place. There are claims that three positions of Prime Minister and two deputies may be created. This would be a consolation for Ruto who Uhuru promised in 2013 and 2017 that Mt Kenya region would rally behind him during the 2022 polls.Ruto, with the position, would still be comfortable in government although he would not be commanding the instruments of power.
