Confirming the incident, Isiolo Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) senior warden Peter Mbote said the lion strayed into the home of the boy and attacked him.

Mr Mbote said the lion strayed from Biliko Bulesa conservancy to the boy’s home at around 1 am on Monday.

He said the boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Isiolo County Referral Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

“The deceased was attacked by the lion that strayed from Biliko Bulesa conservancy to their home. Cases of human-wildlife conflict have been experienced but attacks on livestock are common,” said Mr Mbote.

The KWS officer further said that the family of the deceased have reported the matter to the police and filled the compensation forms.

The area residents have called on the KWS to step in and find a solution saying that the wild animals have for years terrorized them by attacking their livestock.

Last month, three people were attacked and injured in Lakole sub-location of Merti North, Isiolo County as cases of human-wildlife conflicts increase.
