Hassan Joho lost when he attempted to venture into politics in December 2004. Joho’s choice of joining politics was well calculated because of the person he aimed to replace.

Kisauni parliamentary seat had been left vacant after the then coastal political kingpin, Karisa Maitha, died. Maitha was the then a local government minister.

At age 25, Joho faced lawyer Anania Mwasambu Mwaboza. The young Joho lost narrowly by garnering 7,293 votes against 8,374 for Mwaboza. This was a huge step for Joho because his opponent enjoyed support from ruling party’s political heavyweights like retired President Mwai Kibaki.

The delay to venture into active politics forced Joho back to the drawing board. He made a comeback in the 2007 General Election against the same opponent. He emerged the winner with 35,720 votes while Mwaboza garnered 19,078. This marked the start of his political career.

Mwaboza was born on 21st March 1972 in Mwandoni, Kisauni, Mombasa County. He attended Francisco Di Almeida kindergarten in 1977 then joined Mtopanga primary school in1979.

He sat for KCPE in1986 then his KCSE in 1990 at Allidina Visram High School after joining the institution in 1987.

He has a Bachelor of Social Legislation from Marathwada University in India and a Bachelor of Law from the same institution. He also holds a Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law. He is an experienced coastal leader who has held several political positions.
