Speaking in an interview at a local radio station on Wednesday, Muthama said the president had planned to arrest Raila after he had taken his oath.

He said Raila had to weigh between getting arrested and the country sinking in post-election violence or shaking hands with President Kenyatta and saving the country tears.

"Raila had to make a tough decision after he took an oath as the people's president, he had to close ranks with President Uhuru so that the country won't go back to where it was after 2007 elections," Muthama said.

Muthama said Raila betrayed no one, hence shouldn't be criticized because of his decisions since he knew they were for the good of the country.

"Even me at first I didn't understand his decision until he spoke to us and explained in depth then we backed him," Muthama added.

He said Wiper is still in NASA coalition and rubbished claims that the coalition is on its death bed.

Muthama made these sentiments after Wetangula distanced himself with the NASA and announced his exit from the coalition.
