Police in Nairobi are in hot pursuit of assassins  who shot and seriously injured former Garissa Finance County Executive Committee Member (CEC)  Idris Mukhtar on Sunday.

According to Nairobi Deputy Police boss Richard Kerich, they  (police) are following crucial leads that will see the assassins arrested.

Speaking to journalists  in Nairobi on Wednesday, Kerich said that they are doing everything to arrest the culprits.

“We have crucial leads and very soon we will make arrests and arraign those people in court,” he said.

The police boss said that the former Minister was shot at close range.

“They (assassins) trailed  him from his home to the Mosque before shooting him on the head on Sunday,” he said.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has called on police to expedite investigations.

Mukhtar is battling for his life at a city hospital.

He was shot when he had gone for evening prayers at Nairobi’s Hurlingham mosque.
