Mr Ruto said that he will continue making donations to the church for the work of God unlike some other leaders.

The DP was reacting after a section of leaders questioned his huge donations to churches.

Speaking at a church service in Kayole on Sunday where he gave Sh1.5 million, Mr Ruto said some of those against his generosity to the church were themselves making night vigils to witch doctors where they spend their money.

“No amount of accusations will deter me from making donations to the church. If you investigate some of these people criticising my donations to the church, they use their money at night.”

“We do not ask why they take their money to witchdoctors so they should leave us alone to take our money to church for the work of God,” said Mr Ruto.

Here are some reactions from Garissa residents following DP Ruto’s statement:

“It’s good that he chooses to spend his money in the church instead of wasting it on trips or other things. You blessed when you give to God,” said Najma Ahmed.

“We should question where he gets his money. Ruto is known for his huge donations and I think the lifestyle audit should start with him to explain where he gets his money,” said Nadra Osman.

“That is tax payers’ money he keeps giving out. That money should be used to benefit the public who are suffering due to this economy,” said Ayan Mohamud.
