There have been calls from  Kenyans, politicians and Kalenjin Council of Elders urging Deputy President William Ruto and KANU chairman Gideon Moi to settle their differences and work to work together if they want to win the presidential seat in 2022.

The differences between the two Kalenjin leaders have continued to cause divisions in the vote-rich Rift Valley region something that is dangerous for both the voter and the fate of the two politicians who are interested in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Recently the Kalenjin Council of Elders revealed that their efforts to bring the two together and settle their scores have been unsuccessful.

“They are both our sons but they have decided not to listen to us. We have sought appointments through their personal aides and even approached them in public forums but all these efforts have proved futile,” noted Major (Rtd) John Sei who spoke on behalf of the council

In my opinion, it is still very early for any of the two leaders from Rift Valley to drop their presidential bid and support the other.

Coalitions are usually formed shortly before an election which is still about four years ahead and everyone is still trying to win voters to their side as this is what will grant them a better share in any coalition.

For this reason, I foresee a scenario where DP Ruto and Senator Moi will bury their hatchet and agree to support one of them for the top seat as they both come from one region.

Should they fail to agree, they are however equally justified to pursue their own course independently.
