A man in his late 40s is currently being held by police officers in Nyamira county after he allegedly attacked his wife.
Peter Mogaka is said to have descended on his wife Jerusha Kerubo at their Kebirigo sub-location home in West Mugirango constituency, Nyamira County on Tuesday.
Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba said it is not clear why Mogaka attacked his wife.
"The suspect attacked his wife with a machete and injured her on the head seriously. No one including neighbours know the reason behind the attack. After the attack, the man attempted to escape but members of the public chased after him, beat him before they surrendered him to police," Mariba noted.
The commissioner said the victim was rushed to Nyamira county hospital where she is being treated.
He assured that the man is being questioned by police so that he can explain why he attacked his wife.
Mariba argued that cases of men beating their wives will not be condoned.
"I urge men to stop opting to beating their wives. Let them find amicable ways of solving their marital problems. Violence against women must stop," he added.
The county security boss assured that the suspect will be taken to court to face assault charges.
