A section of Kalenjin elders now say Deputy President William Ruto does not need endorsement from any politician to win State House race.
Dr Ruto has been traversing the country popularising his bid, over 33 months before the country goes for polls.
Unlike in the past where President Uhuru Kenyatta assured him of support, the head of state has remained mum about Ruto's quest.
Led by Peter Koech on Friday, the elders said Ruto is his own man and will not depend on any endorsement from political bigwigs to clinch the presidency.
“DP Ruto was the man behind President Kenyatta’s campaign in 2013 and 2017. He was also the man Raila Odinga’s 2007 presidential campaign," he said.
"He does not require any endorsement from the bigwigs as he already has the support of the people at the grassroots,” Mr Koech added.
There have been calls urging Dr Ruto to team up with the likes of Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka, although the DP has not initiated any talks.
Recently, Mr Musyoka dismissed claims that he's ready to work with Ruto, insisting that he is keen to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
