A police swoop in Thika on Monday reportedly netted 38 students who were found holed up inside a dark room in one of the town's buildings where they were betting, playing play station and other antisocial activities.

The nabbed youngsters included boys and girls aged between 10 and 15 and were found to be pupils/students from various primary and secondary schools in the town.

"Also arrested were two young men who are proprietors of the business. Sources close to the facility indicated that young children frequent the joint and even engage in illicit sexual intercourse and drug abuse," a Facebook post on Thika Town Today page reads in parts.

The post continues to elicit mixed reactions from various social media users, most of them who are seemingly residents.

While some blame the stinky rot on laxity on the side of parents, others blame it on the 'system' that banned tuition, canning of kids in school and extended the duration kids spend on holidays.

"This is what we as teachers have to contend with every day. Students come back to school after 4 weeks of neglect at home. The teacher is not allowed to discipline the students or else the same parents will be all over social media with bloggers to tarnish the school's reputation. Let the law take its course," one user who is apparently a teacher commented.
