Abednego Ominde, the suspended personal assistant for embattled IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba, was on Thursday caught red-handed trying to sneak fourteen crucial files from the IEBC offices.
He was in the company of IEBC's finance director Agatha Wahome.
The commission's chairperson Wafula Cheukati confirmed the incident, saying that those involved had been taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for interrogation.
"The files came from the office of the acting director of finance. They were taken to the DCI for questioning," Chebukati said.
Chiloba said that he had requested for the files.
“Given the magnitude of the audit queries raised, my absence from office for over five months and the need to respond to those queries adequately, I personally requested copies of the relevant documents to be ready on my return to work," Chiloba's statement to newsrooms partly read.
The CEO has been battling claims of embezzlement of funds and has had to grapple with a number of court cases.
He has denied any wrongdoing in procurement.
Also questioned was the commission's accountant Fatma Jama.
