Last week, his former classmate at Moi University Dan Onyancha said Kiunjuri left the little known Kebirigo Boys in 1995 for matatu industry, shocking many of colleagues.

"He was quiet at campus even at Kebirigo. He stayed just for a year and quit for Matatu industry as a tout. We were shocked," said the former English teacher and now a director in Nyamira County.

During at Kebirigo Boys stay, then Kebirigo Mixed, Mr Kiunjuri is said to have been an introvert, who rarely shared with colleagues.

Mr Stephen Nyabuti, who taught with him during that period, says that he was shocked to learn that Kiunjuri had been elected as Laikipia East MP two years later.

"Honestly is was shy and quiet. He rarely shared with colleagues but he defended what he taught was right. He just quit without telling us what happened," said Nyabuti, a Geography and Swahili teacher at Riakworo mixed.

After quitting teaching, Kiunjuri briefly stayed as a tout along several routes before joining parliament in 1997.

He clinged on until 2013 when he lost and was subsequently appointed to Cabinet in 2015 by Jubilee administration.

His Kebirigo Boys now remains a forgotten institution besides performing dismally in national exams.

Also worthy noting, the institution is located near the home of Chief Justice David Maraga and Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama.
