Bodaboda operators brought businesses to a standstill at Kabarnet Town as a sign of solidarity over the sudden death of their colleague.
The over 300 operators were parading so as to bring locals to the attention of funds drive held on Wednesday evening. The exercise was meant to cater for medical bills and burial expenses for the late Hillary Kiprono Arusei.
Arusei was a bodaboda operator who died following a tragic road accident. The family had appealed for financial help to offset medical bills at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where Arsei had been receiving treatment before he succumbed to head injuries.
The story was earlier highlighted by hivisasa.
According to Festus Kipchumba, despite the bodaboda operators collecting funds earlier, the funds drive managed to raise Sh46,000 within an hour.
"The late was a darling to the motorbike operators and he blended well with all of them an act which saw them offer their generous contributions to give their hero a good send off," Kipchumba revealed.
A close friend to late the late Arusei said well-wishers contributed heavily to support the family. Using a WhatsApp group, they had collected over Sh70,000.
"I enormously appreciate anyone who in one way or the other has contributed towards laying off my best friend. I urge them to continue with good hearts," said the close friend who sought anonymity.
Well-wishers collection in total summed up to Sh270,000 which almost hit the targetted amount of Sh350, 000.
Burial date has been set for Tuesday next week.
