Muslim residents of Kisumu on Sunday went to the polls to elect their new Kisumu Muslims Association (KMA) officials.

The tension was very high on the eve of the elections due to differences between two camps that were to be involved.

However surprisingly, things cooled down and the polls went on as planned.

Sheikh Musa Ismail was elected the Chairman after garnering 575 votes, defeating the outgoing Chairman Khalfan Khamisi who got 320. 

13 votes were declared spoilt in the Chairman’s race. 

Speaking after being declared the winner, Musa promised to unite all Muslims in Kisumu County for a greater course.

Ibrahim Amani is was elected Vice Chairman after getting a total of 451 votes, defeating his close rival Bilal Ismail Aida who got 333 votes.

Yusuf Okeya was elected Secretary with 463, defeating the out-going Secretary Ali Zakaria who got 322 votes.

The new Vice Secretary is Salim Ombima who got 425 votes beating Salim Kombo who managed to get 352 votes.

Ayub Said got 407 votes to become the new Organizing Secretary with his closest rival, Rajab Otin managing 382 votes.

Adan Mohammed was elected Ayub Said’s secretary with 434 votes as Anwar Otieno got 338 votes.
