A section of leaders has backed Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for the presidency. The leaders opine that the CS is better-placed to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when he completes his second and final term in power.
Nyamira County Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, who is a close ally of the Matiang’i said that they have been seeking support from various groups to ensure the CS rises to power if he decides to give a stab at the nation’s top seat when that time comes.
“We are rallying our people to support Dr. Matiang’i for the presidency in 2022. We have been having meetings with youth, women and church leaders so as to strategise,” she said.
On his part, the CS has maintained that he is committed to discharging his duties in the Interior docket. He affirmed that he is not ready to disappoint President Uhuru Kenyatta as he seeks to leave behind a legacy when he retires from office.
“I have not been involved in any political activity,” he told Daily Nation on phone.
“I have been engaged in development activities, pure and simple.”
Other leaders who have also shown confidence in the CS are Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Senator Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), women representatives Pamella Odhiambo (Migori), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Mishi Mboko (Mombasa), MPs Caleb Hamisi (Saboti), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Tom Odege (Nyatike) and Peter Masara (Suna West).
