Political analyst Herman Manyora now says that the ongoing tussle in Nairobi county could have been avoided had embattled governor Mike Sonko used the right channel.
This comes at a time when Sonko is now being accused of going against the conditions of his bail terms, following his decision to appoint Anne Kananu to the Deputy Governor post.
Manyora, also a university professor, now says that Sonko could have avoided the looming legal trouble had he sought the permission of the court, after his suspension from office.
"I suspect that Sonko, for example, had gone to court and asked for a small window to allow him to, despite the restrictions of the bail term, appoint a deputy, I am convinced the court would have given him the leeway," he said.
He spoke in a recorded analysis posted on his YouTube channel Take It Or Leave It.
Already, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has challenged the appointment, with Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen, one of his lawyers, coming out to defend him.
Manyora also pointed out that the governor, who is facing numerous graft charges in court, could have avoided the possible rejection of Kananu's appointment in the County Assembly had he sought President Uhuru Kenyatta's intervention.
Manyora says that the county boss should have as well go for one of the prominent city figures initially linked to the post, which is not the case in his appointment.
"Then he would have walked to the State House and talked to the president and told him "Now I this opportunity to appoint a deputy governor. Please give me a name"," he added.
Sonko has been serving without a deputy since the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in 2018.
