Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando has predicted that 2020 is the year President Uhuru Kenyatta will implement the TJRC and Kroll reports.
"With pressure for ACTION mounting unrelentingly, President Uhuru will order rapid action on TJRC and KROLL reports," Kabondo tweeted on Tuesday.
Both reports detailed in breathtaking terms, Kenya's dark past such as the political violence and corruption, dropping names of those behind the evils.
The Kroll report, which exposed the corruption allegedly orchestrated by the first president Daniel Moi's family, was commissioned by Mwai Kibaki in 2003.
It was meant to be the first step in recovering the money lost in Moi's regime. But after investigations were launched, another scandal - Anglo Leasing - emerged and from then on, nobody mentioned in the Kroll report was ever prosecuted.
The TJRC report, on the other hand, compiled a list of 'gross human rights violations' in Kenya, from independence in 1963 to 2008.
Compiled under the stewardship of the Bethuel Kiplagat, the former TJRC chair, it was submitted to the Uhuru administration but is yet to be implemented.
Human rights organisations operating in the country have long called for the implementation of both reports, but so far no government has had the courage to do so.
Should Uhuru move to implement the report, it would be a significant development in the country's history as it would touch the mighty and powerful.
Kabando also predicted that in 2020, Members of Parliament will lose their influence and political analysts such as Mutahi Ngunyi will gain more influence.
"@DavidNdii @WehliyeMohamed @WMutunga @makaumutua @Maina_Kiai @MutahiNgunyi will be increasingly vocal, gaining bigger traction. Generally, MPs’ influence will fall," Kabando wa Kabando wrote.
