Archbishop Dominic Kimengich, the newly-installed successor of the late Archbishop Cornelius Korir has weighed in on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking on Friday, the religious leader expressed fears that the initiative was now driving a wedge between Kenyans instead of uniting them as had been originally intended.
"This BBI was supposed to be an answer that would bring Kenyans together as brother so that they can work together. But now the way things are going, it is dividing Kenyans more than uniting them
(Hii BBI ilikuwa inafa kuwa answer ya kuwakutanisha Wakenya wote waishi Kama ndugu waweze kufanya kazi pamoja. Lakini sasa vile inaelekea inagawanya watu kuliko kuunganisha), " the Eldoret Archbishop said. (2:02-2:16)
The Eldoret Archbishop's words came in the wake of heightened political temperatures over the BBI.
Politicians have been trading strong words against each other over an initiative that was started with the noble intention of uniting Kenyans.
One side of the political aisle has accused the other of hidden agendas in the BBI.
Proponents of the initiative are expected to congregate on Saturday in Kitui County, hosted by Governor Charity Ngilu
It will be the fourth meeting of its kind, coming after meetings held in Kisii, Kakamega and Mombasa counties.
Chief proponents of the BBI are President Uhuru Kenyatta and his long-time political adversary Raila Odinga.
