Kenya Football Federation is set to have its election in October. This comes at a time the highly emotive season of Kenyan football is approaching.

Moses Akaranga, the former Vihiga county governor is the latest entrant in the race to succeed Nick Mwendwa as the FKF president. 

Under Article 37 of the FKF constitution, a national chairman is tasked with supervising the secretariat, implementing decisions of the national executive committee among others being the chief delegate of the federation.

Getting to call shots at the most followed organization in Kenya one has as to fulfil certain sets of conditions, that are geared towards ensuring one is a member of the football fraternity. 

The federation’s guidelines stipulate that candidates wishing to contest for the post of President must fulfil the following conditions;

They must be or have been a member of its highest decision-making body, the national executive committee. 

It is also a requirement that a candidate for the top post should be a chairman of either Kenyan Premier League (KPL) or Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League club or a branch chairman.

Nick Mwendwa, who was elected FKF president in 2016, is eligible to serve a second and final four-year term at the helm of the federation. 

The recent successes of the national football team – including qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations – ranks as part of Mwendwa’s top achievements.

No challenger has come out to formally declare an interest to unseat Mwendwa, although his predecessor, Sam Nyamweya, SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri and former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga have been mentioned as some of the likely candidates for the job.
