Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has called for immediate investigations into an incident where children in Bomet County indulged in alcohol taking leading to being admitted to hospital.
The kids are said to have stumbled on a 5-litre jerrycan of chang'aa while herding their family livestock Kaproret village, Mogogosiek location, Konoin sub-county.
They ended up taking the illegal drink.
Residents found them unconscious and rushed them to Kapkatet hospital where they are admitted.
The Ministry of Interior said it was shocked by the development.
“Our attention has been drawn to a report of an incident where children were hospitalised after partaking chagaa in Kaproret village,” the Ministry said.
Matiang’i said the government will act firmly on the incident.
“We will spare no efforts or resources protecting Kenyans from these toxic substances, especially when they affect the lives of our innocent children. We will act firmly and decisively on this matter,” Matiang’i said.
According to John Maritim, a resident of the village where the incident occurred, there is a group of notorious brewers who have become so bold that even the chiefs cannot touch them.
Residents have been holding protests over the brews but nothing is done.
