Hundreds of youth from across Mombasa are turning up in large numbers for the County Government 2019 recruitment exercise that will see them recruited into various technical and vocational courses at the City polytechnics and Colleges.
The weeklong registration exercise which is being undertaken by the County Department of Education, ICT and Mombasa Vision 2035 in coordination with the Sub-county Administration, is taking place at the Tononoka Social Hall for those in Mvita Sub-county, Kisauni Youth Polytechnic for those in Kisauni and Nyali Sub-counties, Changamwe Fire Station for those in Changamwe and Jomvu Sub-counties and Mrima DECECE offices for those in Likoni Sub-county from 9am to 5pm.
More than 1,060 students including 256 in Kisauni and Nyali, 326 in Mvita, 356 in Changamwe and Jomvu and 122 in Likoni registered for various courses by the close of business on Monday 7, the first day of the recruitment exercise.
Interested youth who scored D+ and below, KCPE graduates and drop outs are urged to carry original certificates and national ID cards (if above 18 years) to register.
The County Government of Mombasa will pay 70% of the fees needed for the students to be trained.
As way of alleviating high youth unemployment, the County through the department of education two years ago, established a programme dubbed 'Tukuza Vipawa' to create awareness on training programmes and equip youth with skills to enable them be self-employed or get employment in industries and organizations.
The Courses which the youth are trained on include:-

2. Welding and Fabrication
3. Seafaring
4. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
5. Automotive Engineering
6. Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Electrician
7. Electrical and Electronics
8. Building Technology
9. Fashion and Design
10. Food and Beverage
11. Cosmetology (Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy)
12. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
