The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) led by Ezekiel Masese said they turned up to withdraw money at Kenyan Commercial Bank (KCB) in Nyamiratown only to find their accounts empty.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta is trying to joke around with us because we can't find the money he promised us in our bank accounts. We need the money to be able to prepare for Christmas and plan on how our children will get back to school on January 2, 2018," said Masese.

Jane Kwamboka claimed that cartels might have diverted the IDPs' funds into their pockets.

The locals stormed Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru's office to demand the money.

"Nakoru is representing the office of the president and he must give answers why the money is yet to reflect in our bank accounts," said Kwamboka.

Nakoru however, managed to calm down the protesters and assured that he will follow up the matter to ensure the IDPs are paid.
