A week later, Kenya's founding father was given a befitting send-off on August 31 in a funeral service that was attended by hundreds of top politicians from the country and abroad.

Kenyatta's body was carried by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in a procession from State House, Nairobi, to Parliament Buildings, the current position of his mausoleum.

An army officer, Sergeant Francis Njoroge Matheri, was assigned to drive the firstborn sons of the fallen Commander-In-Chief.

They were then; Juja MP and assistant minister for Foreign Affairs Peter Muigai Kenyatta, Peter Magana Kenyatta and Uhuru Kenyatta, the current President of Kenya.

Peter Muigai was Kenyatta's son with his first wife Wahu Kenyatta while Magana was born out of Kenyatta's relationship with his British wife Edna Clarke

President Uhuru is son to former First Lady Mama Ngina who was Kenyatta's fourth wife.

Sergeant Njoroge recalls vividly it was after the procession left State House and joined Kirk Road (now Nyerere road) that he made a prophecy about Uhuru that has come to pass.

Speaking to Daily Nation, the officer, who is now retired, said 'he timed as Peter Muigai was distracted by the huge crowds that had thronged the road' to tell Uhuru he will one day be the Commander-In-Chief just like his father.

“Thoma na kio, muthenya ni ugakinya ugaikarira giti kiu kia thoguo” (put great effort in your studies, one day you will sit on your dad's presidency seat)" he said in a past interview.

Njoroge recalled withdrawn Uhuru, then 17 and sitting on the back left seat, 'was suddenly alert, looked ahead then bowed his head, he did not utter a word'.

The retired soldier who spoke to the Daily Nation in August 2018, said it was his wish to meet the President before his retirement in 2022.

“I do not want anything from the Commander-In-Chief. I just want to meet him and confirm that my vision came true. It would settle my heart since I have never talked to him since then,” Njoroge said.
