President Uhuru Kenyatta caused a stir on Wednesday during the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations when he showed up at the Nyayo stadium donning the red tunic military wear.
The President caused laughter as he greeted and saluted dignitaries at the function.
He started with First Lady Margret Kenyatta who he saluted leaving the guests in stitches.
He then did the same to his deputy William Ruto, his wife Rachel and NASA leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi.
The military regalia is ceremonial attire that can be won by the commander-in-chief.
The ceremonial Kenya Army full-service red tunic is for the five-star general.
Kenyatta is the third Kenyan president to preside over a national function in full military uniform after first president Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi.
Here are photos of Moi and Mzee Kenyatta in the uniforms.
