President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to pay Mama Ngina Kenyatta his father's pension albeit on a lighter note.

While commemorating his father, Jomo Kenyatta's death in the 40th anniversary and Holy Family Basilica, Uhuru described him as a disciplined Kenyan who worked hard.

"Many things have been said about Mzee but all I can say he was a very hardworking fellow. He even represented us in UK besides working for Nairobi Municipal.

"Mama (Ngina Kenyatta) keeps asking me why she does not receive his pension from Nairobi County. I don't know why Sonko is yet to do that. I expect him to consider her for pension," said Uhuru, as the congregation responded with a laughter.

Mzee Kenyatta died in 1978 at Mombasa State House over what doctors termed as heart attack.

In recent weeks Uhuru has been embroiled in a silent war with Mr. Sonko, a self-proclaimed anti-graft crusader.

While speaking with Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in a leaked video, Sonko is heard confessing that he's under pressure from State House.

"Unajua nimekaliwa. Wewe pigia Nzioka au mkubwa akusaidie," he confessed apparently in reference to Uhuru.
