The former national soccer team, Harambee Stars Captain Dennis Oliech, famously referred to as 'The Menace' is back with a thud.
Oliech recently joined Kenya Premier League (KPL) defending Champions Gor Mahia after over two years out of football action. He scored his maiden goal for the club against Posta Rangers last week.
Fans are divided on whether 'The Menace' should be in the Stars' squad that will represent Kenya in the 2019 Edition of the Africa Cup of nations to be held in Egypt in June or not.
Dennis Oliech should be in that squad and here is why;
1. Goal poacher
Oliech is a goal poacher. The 33-year-old holds the record as the highest top scorer for the national team, having found the net 34 times in his career.
In order to win matches at this year’s edition of the AFCON, Coach Sebastian Migne’s side will need to score goals and there’s no other accomplished goal scorer to turn to apart from Oliech.
On a good day, Oliech’s combination with Michael Ogada Olunga in a 4-4-2 formation can cause trouble to formidable defences in Africa.
2. Experience
Oliech was in the squad that last represented Kenya in AFCON in Tunisia in 2004. He has been to the biggest stage of African football, and back.
His inclusion in the June squad will come as a morale booster and an inspiration to younger players like Captain Victor Wanyama who are seeking to leave a mark on the African soccer stage.
