A section of residents in Eldoret town has angrily reacted a recent survey that has ranked Deputy President William Ruto as the most corrupt leader in the country.
In the survey that was released on Wednesday by IPSOS Synovate, DP Ruto was named by 33 per cent of interviewed Kenyans as the most corrupt leader followed by Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru who had 31 per cent.
Reacting to the report, some of the locals in Eldoret, Ruto's hometown termed it as biased, ill-intended and only meant to tarnish his name.
They also wondered why the report has been released at this time when the DP is eyeing the country's top seat in the 2022 general elections.
“I want to condemn the poll with the strongest terms possible. William Ruto is not corrupt, he got his property through the right channel. No one whatsoever should rank him corrupt,” said John Korir, a local.
“We read malice in the poll; I think there is somebody somewhere who has orchestrated the survey to block Ruto from being the president but he won't succeed. Where did they get the views from and yet I was not interviewed?” added another local Komen Kirwa.
Other locals challenged opinion poll companies to be sincere and fair in their surveys by ensuring all regions are equally involved.
“The poll is biased and we suspect that Ruto's competitors paid the company to come up such a survey,” said John Kiprop.
Other leaders named as the most corrupt according to the 2018 IPSOS report on graft include retired President Daniel Moi (17%), President Uhuru Kenyatta (11%) while opposition chief Raila Odinga and former President Mwai Kibaki had 5 per cent each.
