More leaders drawn from Nyamira and Kisii Counties have protested Deputy President William Ruto's unnecessary, 'fake' visits to Gusii region.
The leaders led by Victor Swanya, Wiper Party Chairman, said DP Ruto should stop loitering in Gusii region in the name of launching 'ghost' projects.
"Ruto is seeking to remain relevant in Gusii region's politics given it's an opposition stronghold. For the numerous tours he has been making, there is nothing tangible he has brought to benefit the people," said Swanya.
He regretted that some elected leaders have been accompanying Mr. Ruto to fund drives instead of championing for development.
"The current leaders elected to represent the people are lazy and unwilling to champion for people's rights. All the electorates deserve is development and not fund drives," he said.
Rachael Otundo, a Kisii based local politician urged the Gusii community members to boycott any event DP Ruto will be presiding next time in Gusii region.
"Greeting people by hands doesn't change their lives. DP Ruto should bring real development and not empty promises," she noted.
ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire on Tuesday said DP Ruto has been launching fake projects in his Gusii trips.
"We have projects such as Bonyunyu Dam which should be finished. DP Ruto is using tricks to win votes in 2022 but, it is very unfortunate he can't get support from members of the Gusii community," said Bosire.
