Elgeyo Marakwet Senator and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen is in support of the proposed constitutional changes, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said.
According to Wamalwa, the vocal senator has since made a proposal of what he wants to be changed in the looming referendum.
The CS said that Murkomen personally told him the same recently, while in the company of his Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo who also has his proposal ready.
"I was talking to Senator Murkomen and Mutula. They have already made proposals in the Senate," said Wamalwa on KTN's Point Blank show on Wednesday night.
Ironically, Murkomen has been among leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto who have been very vocal against the bid, terming it a plot to benefit a small group of people.
The former Justice Cabinet Minister said that the entire Senate is actually preparing itself for the changes, and has since passed a list of the things it wants to be changed.
Some of the things the Senate wants looked into, he revealed, include the funds trickling down to the counties from the central government.
"As we speak, the Senate has already passed what it wants changed, including the issue of what goes to the counties," he added.
The referendum issue has been a hot topic following Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta early last year.
Raila has repeatedly claimed that the issue is one of the matters discussed and agreed on before the handshake, adding that the changes are inevitable.
Uhuru has also hinted at supporting the calls, saying that there is a strong need for the nation to do away with the 'winner takes it all' system.
However, the changes have been opposed by DP Ruto.
