A section of Rift Valley leaders are now demanding an explanation from President Uhuru Kenyatta over the recent remarks made by Jubilee Party vice chairman David Murathe.
Speaking during a cultural fete in Western Kenya last week, Murathe said Deputy President William Ruto should head to retirement together with his boss in 2022 since both have been governing on equal measure.
Murathe, a confidant of the Head of State, further said Kikuyu community has no debt to pay Ruto for having supported the President for two terms.
"If he (Ruto) has an MoU with Uhuru Kenyatta, then that was an agreement between two individuals," he said adding Kikuyus were looking for a partner from another region to work with in 2022.
But the DP's footsoldiers have now come out guns blazing taking the President to task and asking him to come out and shed more light on the sentiments made by his close ally.
Led by Kipkelion West MP Hillary Koskei and his Belgut counterpart Nelson Koech, the leaders also demanded Murathe be expelled from Jubilee for attempting to put a wedge between the President and his deputy.
"It has reached a time that we are now forced to ask the President to tell us why Murathe is still in Jubilee. Why is he still being allowed to go around trying to wreck the party by making irresponsible utterances?” said Koskei, speaking to Sunday Standard.https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001307754/jitters-over-uhuru-2022-succession
However, speaking to journalists on Friday, Uhuru seemed to distance himself from the remarks that has sparked a raging debate, saying he won't be dragged into the succession politics as Jubilee has its own plan.
