Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has occasionally made headlines due to his political stand with a number of Kenyans opining that he might be preparing to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Despite Kabogo not officially declaring his 2022 presidential bid after he suffered a shock defeat in the 2017 Kiambu gubernatorial race, he has what it takes to vie for the country's top seat.Kabogo hails from Kiambu County which is Uhuru’s backyard. This provides him with an opportunity to create a strong political base in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region. The exit of Uhuru from active politics after his term ends in 2022 will create a vacuum in the region. The Mt Kenya region will need a spokesperson, a role which Kabogo can easily fit in considering his eloquence and influence in the region’s political scene. Mt Kenya voters also believe that a politician from the region must be part of those forming government, something that Kabogo can use to his advantage. If the vocal politician receives endorsement as the Mt Kenya kingpin, he will have a bigger chance of clinching the presidency in 2022. All he needs to do is ensure he gets backing from the legislators in the region.Kabogo is known for his wealth and flamboyant lifestyle. The Kiambu politician reportedly owns a fleet of cars and a chopper which will make it easier for him to traverse the country in search of votes. In 2017, he made headlines after he unleashed a military vehicle as part of his campaign entourage. This will enable Kabogo to compete with the likes of Deputy President William Ruto who has recently launched a charm offensive in the country, using his chopper to traverse several regions. Despite unsuccessfully defending his seat in 2017, Kabogo launched several development projects in Kiambu County, with his biggest achievement being in the health sector. He can use the projects to defend his bid by convincing Kenyans he has their best interests at heart and what it takes to transform their lives.#hivisasaoriginal
