There was tight security at the facilities as family members and close friends drove to the crematorium during the ceremony.

The general public watched at a distance as the vehicle arrived at the place for the cremation of Collymore who died of cancer of the blood on Monday.

The convoy of the vehicles escorting the body of the deceased left the Lee Funeral Home early in the morning and made its way on Jogoo Road before branching off to Kariokor.

Unlike other powerful personalities who had been cremated at the same venue, Collymore’s convoy didn’t have police outriders to escort it.

He had told Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange before he died that he wanted to be cremated quickly.

Before his cremation, Safaricom announced Michael Joseph as the interim CEO at the giant telecommunications company.

The new development has, however, not augured well with many taxpayers who wanted a Kenyan to replace top leadership of Safaricom.
