There was drama on a demolition site in Kayole after a sitting MP was arrested by police officers who had been trailing him. The Embakasi Central legislator, Benjamin Gathiru, commonly know as Mejja Donk, was arrested just minutes after he showed up at Nyama Villa estate.
According to Citizen Digital, Gathiru was apprehended after he allegedly demanded to be issued with an eviction notice. The demolitions at Nyama Villa, he said, had been conducted illegally without prior notice to the residents.
Further reports indicate that the owners of the buildings had been notified earlier but failed to inform their tenants who have since lost property worth millions in the Tuesday morning exercise.
As the demolitions began at the crack of dawn, there was a heavy presence of anti-riot police who offered security as the excavators sneaked through to Spine Road and finally Nyama Villa estate.
