Abagusii Council of Elders secretaries Mr Bosire Angwenyi while speaking outside the council of elders offices in Kisii on Thursday defended DP Ruto for attending several fund drives to help schools and churches improve infrastructure.

"In my own opinion, those opposed to numerous fund drives being attended by DP Ruto should mind their own businesses because if DP Ruto is rich, giving back to the society is not illegal. Let him continue giving what he has to help churches and schools to improve infrastructure," said Angwenyi.

Angwenyi reiterated that leaders should not be denied freedom of attending fund drives.

He dismissed claims that a section of politicians led by DP Ruto who has been dishing out money at fund drives are thieves.

"It doesn't mean that when a leader donates a huge amount of money at fundraisers he or she is a thief. We need to give freedom to our leaders to donate the money they have hardly earned to help in developing churches and schools," said the secretary.

Angwenyi challenged elected leaders not to succumb to pressure being piled on them for attending fund drives to donate money.
