Following an incident of burglary and theft that occurred on the night of 18th April 2019 at the Department of Transport and Infrastructure’s storage facility in Nandi county, the governor has suspended 16 staff.

In a statement he sent through his Facebook page, the Governor noted that incident caused loss of millions worth of items.

"The Chief Officer for roads reported this incident at Kapsabet Police Station on the morning of 19th April 2019 for investigation and possible arrest and prosecution for those involved,

"Investigations revealed that a consignment of 99 tyres valued 3.4 million shillings meant for our county vehicles had been stolen," read the Facebook post.

The governor further said the County Administration will fully support the investigative and prosecuting authorities to pursue the cases to their logical conclusion adding that any county officer or staff found to have participated either directly or indirectly or abetted the loss of government resources and property will face the full force of the law.

He also constituted an ad hoc audit committee to investigate the whole matter, identify the existing loopholes in the management and implementation processes of ECDE projects. 

He mandated the committee to also recommend measures to be undertaken by the department in order to prevent the same incidents of burglary from happening in future. 

The suspended officials include Eng. Hillary Koech the CECM for Transport and Infrastructure; Mr Jonah Biwot the Chief Officer Transport and Infrastructure; Mr David Kemei Director Roads; Ms Valentine Chumo the CECM Education; Mr Stanley Baliach the CECM Lands/Previously Education

Others are Mr Daniel Sang chief Officer Education; Mr Edwin Mosbei the Project Manager ECDE Mr Julius Too the Assistant Director ECDEMs; Rose Sang the Clerical Assistant/Store EducationMr. Julius Kiprotich the ECDE Project management Office; Mr Nicholas Lagat Francis Koech, Mr Felix Boron both drivers; Mr Johnston Kipchumba, Vincent Amita and, Mr Wilson Koech both Mechanics.
