After losing in ODM primaries in Gem to Elisha Odhiambo, Mr Midiwo decamped the party and contested as an independent. He however lost in 2017 polls.

In his various media interviews, Mr Midiwo has often criticised Mr Odinga, accusing him of mismanaging ODM party besides making 'weak' decisions like working with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, at Nyando, the two leaders walked together and criticised the judiciary over the war on corruption. They questioned the courts decisions to give bails to graft suspects.

“How can a whistle blower be penalised for helping the country to save public funds. This is a mockery of the law,” Odinga protested in reference to penalising of John Githongo.

He warned that damages slapped on Mr Githongo would undermine the spirited war against graft.

“The law must protect whistle blowers,” he said.“We want each of the three arms of government to execute their mandates in accordance with the law. They must uphold the legal values,” Raila added.

Mr Midiwo challenged courts to slap graft suspects with huge bails besides expediting the cases. He said the war on corruption may not succeed with the current approach.

"Someone has clearly stolen yet he's given some little punishment. The cash bail should be increased and such cases should not be dragged," he said.

There were claims that Midiwo would get a job in government but Friday's appointments by President Uhuru Kenyatta for ambassadorial positions did not feature his name.
