While releasing the results, the CS noted great improvement compared to last year's  (2017) results.

The  Education CS also noted zero leakage cases in the exam that over 600,000 candidates sat in November.

"We have seen a great improvement in terms of performance compared to last year, equally there were zero cases of exam leakage in 2018," CS Mohamed said on Friday.

Juliet Otieno from Pangani Girls High School topped the exam scoring an A of 87.664 points.

As top performers celebrate countrywide, the case is not the same in the North Eastern region.

There was no candidate from North  Eastern giant schools who made it to the top 100 list nationally.

In the top 100 list by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), North Eastern candidates did not feature anywhere.

It was expected that giant schools like Garissa Boys High school, Umu Salama Girls High school, Mandera Boys High school, Wajir Girls High school and St Paul's Secondary School in Marsabit would have featured candidates in the top 100 nationally.

North Eastern schools have not been registering good performance in the last two years because of insecurity and mass exodus of non-local teachers.

According to CS Mohamed, results of 100 candidates in 2018 were canceled.

The CS revealed that several teachers who were caught up in cheating syndicates have been interdicted and arraigned in court.
