Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has told governors to adhere to financial and procurement laws to avoid being arrested and taken to court for financial mismanagement.

Kilonzo says governors must keep their governments in checks and guard public resources in their disposal.

Addressing the press during the late Samuel Mbova's memorial service at St Austin's Catholic Church in Nairobi on Thursday, Kilonzo said corruption is rife in counties.

"My advice to governors and county officials is that they should adhere to financial and procurement rules to avoid falling on the wrong side of the law," Kilonzo said.

Kilonzo said the purge on graft will not spare anyone.

He called on politicians to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's government and its war against corruption.

Kilonzo said graft is an economic disease that needs collaborated efforts to be wiped out.

"We must unite and keep politics out if we want to win the fight against corruption," Kilonzo said.

He lauded the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji's push in the war against corruption.

The senator said Haji has proven that indeed the war against graft can be won.

On Wednesday, the DPP ordered for the arrest and prosecution of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

Kidero was arraigned in court on Thursday.

He denied the charges leveled against him of corruption and economic crime.
