Even as he struggles to contain Raila Odinga's confidants over handshake, Deputy President William Ruto is still not yet off the hook over referendum calls.

At Mombasa on Sunday, Ruto accused Raila of using handshake to try to force him out of Jubilee.

But with the DP also dismissing referendum calls by Raila, a section of Jubilee MPs have insisted that Kenya must go for the plebiscite.

“Let Duale not attempt to say that this referendum is about Raila Odinga. It is not. This thing is supported by people everywhere, even in Jubilee. We have seen the burden of this constitution," said Maina Kamanda.

In Nyandarua, more Jubilee MPs joined Raila's bandwagon insisting that the country is ripe for change.

They include Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Michael Muchira (Ol-Joro Orok), Subukia’s Kinuthia Gachobe, Kimani Kuria of Molo, Faith Gitau (Nyandarua Women Rep), Patrick Mariru of Laikipia West, Mr Patrick Munene (Chuka-Igamba-Ng’ombe) and Mathioya’s Peter Kimari.

“Some of these positions in the county governments should be reduced as they amount to duplication of roles and have continued to burden Wanjiku,” Ms Gitau.

And just like that, another duel between Raila Odinga and Ruto has been ignited with both keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Interestingly, Uhuru, who signed an agreement with Raila, has remained mum over the duel.
